Regulations in European Union member states

EU Member States have different positions regarding the regulation of human embryonic stem cell research.

Opinions on the legitimacy of experiments using human embryos are divided according to the different ethical, philosophical, and religious beliefs throughout Europe. These differences are reflected in the laws of each country.

The European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies is a neutral, independent, pluralist and multidisciplinary body set up to examine ethical questions arising from science and new technologies. The Group issues Opinions to the European Commission in connection with the preparation and implementation of Community legislation or policies - including several Opinions relating to stem cell research.
