Research

EuroStemCell aims to derive well-characterized cell lines of therapeutic potential from stem cells of embryonic, neural, mesodermal (muscle) and epithelial origin.

The project brings together academic and commercial researchers from across Europe, with expertise in transgenesis, stem cell biology, developmental biology, tissue repair, in vivo disease models and clinical cell transplantation.

Our research program is organised into eight workpackages, supported by six flagship projects. Each looks at a specific area of stem cell research or technology - from the conditions required to culture stem cells, to key technologies for their identification and isolation, to efficient and directed differentiation. Three of workpackages are specifically focused on the testing and application of stem cell therapies.

We hope that our research will enable a systematic comparative evaluation of the properties and therapeutic potential of pluripotent embryonic, fetal and adult (tissue-specific) stem cells.
